Neat Cutting Oils

Neat Cutting Oils oils are used for a variety of different machining processes and therefore have different properties and compositions that vary, depending on the specific application. Machining processes such as honing, lapping, sawing or turning place very different demands on the respective fluid. Factors influencing the suitability for the respective application are, for example

  • Viscosity: Mineral oil-based cutting oils are available in various viscosity classes. The viscosity determines the fluidity of the cutting oil and can vary depending on the application and machining conditions. High viscosity cutting oils offer better lubrication performance, while low viscosity cutting oils may be suitable for faster machining speeds.
  • Lubricating performance: The lubricating performance of a mineral oil-based cutting oil can vary depending on the additives and composition. Some cutting oils contain special lubricant additives to reduce wear and friction and improve surface quality. Lubricating performance can also be influenced by the type of oil, refining techniques and the choice of base oils.
  • Cooling properties: Mineral oil-based cutting oils have different cooling properties, which are important for the dissipation of heat during metalworking. Some cutting oils offer better heat dissipation and cooling, which can be an advantage at high machining temperatures.
  • Stability and ageing resistance: The stability and ageing resistance of a mineral oil-based cutting oil depends on the quality of the base oil and the composition. Some cutting oils are more resistant to oxidation and have a longer service life, while others may be more susceptible to ageing processes.
  • Environmental impact: Mineral oil-based cutting oils can vary in terms of their environmental impact. Some cutting oils contain special additives to reduce their environmental impact, while others may offer more environmentally friendly alternatives such as bio-based cutting oils.

It is important to consider the specific requirements of the metalworking application and follow the machine manufacturer's recommendations and the cutting oil supplier's specifications to select the appropriate mineral oil-based cutting oil.
