When grinding at low to medium peripheral grinding wheel speeds, the focus is usually on cooling the process and cooling lubricant solutions and emulsions are used. As the metal removal rate increases, cooling lubricants with friction-reducing properties, i.e. non-water-miscible cooling lubricants, are used. However, in order to achieve the economic goal of minimizing operating costs, a far more complex situation must be assessed, which is based on the parameters of lubrication, cooling, cleaning, flushing and corrosion reduction.
Benefit from our experience in all areas of application when choosing the right lubricant!
Both on a hydrocrack basis (HC) and in the top quality polyalphaolefin (PAO) range, our grinding oil range covers the highest requirements in various processes. This applies to health safety through minimal oil mist formation as well as clear production advantages. Our metalworking fluids are suitable for carbide, low-foaming, highly machinable, easy to filter and compatible with all machine components.
Our grinding oils from the esgeGrind product range are used successfully and are recommended by the most renowned machine manufacturers

The majority of non-water-miscible cooling lubricants consist of hydrocarbons with added additives. Nowadays, the focus is clearly on the impact on people and the environment.
This is why modern base fluids made from hydrocarbons are in demand, which perform better and cause fewer environmental problems. If you want to know what makes cooling lubricants so good, you should know the base oils used in them. esgemo products are based on the selection of the highest quality hydrocarbons to protect machines, tools and, of course, the user.
The product properties of a grinding oil depend to a large extent on the selection of hydrocarbons from the raw material and can be directly influenced by the selection of the hydrocarbon structure. Special properties of the final product can be achieved as a result of a high-quality raw materials choice. This has a direct effects on the processing properties and results that can be achieved with a grinding oil. Furthermore, a perfectly pure base oil can optimize the health situation at the workplace, through lower evaporation and purer products, to the benefit of all people who are involved in the process. For esgemo, both goals, protectio of the people and the quality aspects, are directly related, as one presupposes the other. Our aim is therefore always to select the best raw materials, the perfect base oil with lowest evaporation and perfect viscosity.
Gas-to-liquid (GTL) base oils
GTL is synthesized from gas, often methane gas. The resulting base oils are also referred to as Group III+ oils and are qualitatively positioned between hydrocracked oils and polyalphaolefins. GTL base oils have an amazingly good air separation capacity and a very low tendency to evaporate.
Hydrocrack oil base oils
Hydrocracked oils are refined petroleum hydrocarbons. To produce them, substances such as crude kerosene and hydrogen are heated to temperatures of up to 450 °C with the help of catalysts and split into shorter molecules at pressures of up to 300 bar. Hydrocracked oils offer the advantage of a lower tendency to evaporate and atomize.
Ester oils as base oils
Ester oils are also used in cooling lubricants. These are available as natural products (animal fats and vegetable oils) as well as synthetic products. Ester oils have excellent lubricating properties. However, ester-based cooling lubricants have a general problem: they are only compatible with paints and elastomers to a limited extent. If these oils are to be used, the machines must be equipped for these oils at great expense.
Solvent Neutral base oils
Various processes such as distillation, extraction and hydrogenation are used to obtain certain mineral oil fractions from crude oil. Mineral oil raffinates have a relatively high tendency to evaporate.
Polyalphaolefins (PAOs) as base oils
In top coolants, a high flash point at low viscosity, low evaporation, a high viscosity index and outstanding shear and ageing stability can only be achieved by using synthetic PAOs. Various processes such as thermal decomposition and catalyzed actions and reactions produce almost pure PAOs of a certain degree of polymerization. No aromatic hydrocarbons or unsaturated compounds, which are responsible for the oxidation and ageing of the products, are produced. The uniform composition of the PAOs is a particular advantage of this base oil: a significantly lower tendency to evaporate than comparable mineral oil fractions or hydrocracking oils. In addition, the tendency to fogging is also significantly reduced.
Properties of PAOs (polyalphaolefins):
1. optimum air release properties
2. low evaporation tendency
3. excellent viscosity-temperature behavior
4. good foaming behavior
